On 31 May 2023, a delegation from TCTA delivered a variety of books donated by its employees to Vukucinge Primary School in Springs. This initiative was in response
to a call for staff to make a difference through the power of education.

According to TCTA’s Social Specialist, Dr Thato Shale, this initiative would have failed if colleagues did not care about education. “I often say that it takes a village to raise
a child, and TCTA has proven to be that caring village. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported this initiative. We hope that colleagues will support similar
programmes in the future,” she remarked.

The April edition of TCTA Times announced the initiation of a textbook donation drive, led by Dr Shale. Colleagues warmly embraced the initiative and generously donated a
multitude of books covering diverse disciplines. The books were personally delivered to Vukucinge Primary School in Springs, which is located near the AMD Eastern Basin.
TCTA did not undertake this drive alone; it collaborated with AMD operator, Nefasi Water, to ensure the resounding success of the initiative. Linah Moeketsi, representing
Nefasi Water, explained that the initial plan was to house the books in a community library in Springs. However, due to unforeseen challenges, this plan could not be realised.

“The area where the school is located would have greatly appreciated a library, but we find ourselves directly donating to the school so that the children can benefit,” she commented.

This initiative, which commenced in February, concluded today. The donated textbooks included locally and UK-used reading books, lesson plan books, activity books for children (grades R to 7), and picture storybooks.

The school principal, Mxolisi Ndlovu, joyfully received the donation, acknowledging that it would significantly enhance the school’s literacy levels. “We are extremely grateful to TCTA and Nefasi Water for this donation. The books will be a valuable resource for our students and will help them learn and grow,” he stated.
